Yin yoga is a beautiful complement to a more dynamic movement practice. It works more specifically with the connective tissues and joints in the body and is a great way to increase range of motion and flexibility. As a result of the passive and meditative component of the practice, it helps to calm the mind and balance out a busy life. Yin yoga enhances our vitality and overall health.

I couldn’t have found a better place to spend my time and energy [at the YYTT back in August, 2018]. Shawna's Yin Yoga Training was very approachable but also thorough and insightful. The practice and knowledge gained from the course have taken a foundation in my everyday life. Shawna shares the joys of yin [and meditation] in a light handed manner, and her thorough depth of knowledge invites participants to learn about the practice and teaching in a safe and encouraging environment. The greatest gift I received from the course was that it fostered greater awareness and provided tools to living a more Present life.

This training is for yoga teachers and serious practitioners alike.  As well as any body workers who are looking for a new edge to their offerings.  Yin yoga could be just the thing you are looking for.

In this training we will cover:

  • the philosophy behind yin yoga and where it came from.
  • yin yang theory
  • the fundamental yin yoga postures - how to modify, proper use of props, and energetic connection
  • Chakra Essentials and the energy body
  • a few key restorative yoga postures
  • the basics of mindfulness meditation
  • compassionate touch
  • how to teach a yin yoga class - how to sequence and theme an effective class
  • how to weave the yin postures and philosophy into your life and other modalities of teaching and moving.

The foundation of the course is really about bringing the yin energy into our daily lives.  Can we allow this wisdom to seep into our interactions and relationships with others and self.  The yin energy is a place of 'being' rather than 'doing'.  It's an opening to what is.  We practice surrender and acceptance.  We open to compassion and connectivity.

When I saw that Shawna was offering a yin yoga teacher training I immediately signed up and booked flights to Toronto. She is one of those wonderful teachers who teaches from a place of deep wisdom and experience, and I jumped on the opportunity to learn from her. The training itself went way above and beyond what I expected; in addition to philosophy, anatomy and all the regular YTT content, we really dove into energy work, chakras, and personal inquiry. I learned so much about yin yoga and myself in one short week and now feel confident in my practice and teaching it to others.

The week is broken up to include theory on the physical body, energetic and mind body and then how to weave it all into a cohesive, thriving being - you!

We will spend a fair amount of time exploring a mindfulness practice; in both seated meditation and as a tool to bring into your daily life.

It's a jam packed week of information.  Yet due to the nature of the information, is really quite nourishing as you prioritize the yin sensibility of slowing down and self care.

You will receive a yin yoga training manual
You will receive a certificate of completion with 100% attendance and completion of any assignments.

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the training, even now things are still settling and I'm finding new insights and nuggets as I go back to the manual, practice more and find my groove teaching. I picked up a gentle class and I’ve been able to incorporate so many of the poses, modifications and philosophy that you shared with us in training.
