Jon Dickson

What is the nature of transformation? Who, or what, transforms? And what is well being and healing? These are some of the questions a philosopher, scientist, and artist explore. As a lover of knowledge and wisdom, Jon explores questions like these through various means. Yoga, for Jon, is the place and space where he discovered that he could explore the nature of being and possible answers to these questions, while simultaneously being grounded in his body and in community. Studying Kinesiology and health sciences at York University in Toronto was a good place to learn the ways of the scientist and become a keen observer.

About 8 years ago as a former athlete and body builder he gave yoga a try on the West Coast and it was a revelation. Yoga’s way of being, breathing, and focusing was a missing link to his previous training regimens. Over several months, he learned that it wasn’t just a training regimen, and that it was much deeper for him. Yoga opened up a whole new vista, and can of worms!

Right around the same time, Jon enrolled in studies in Existential Analysis & Counselling and Integrative Body Psychotherapy to deepen his understanding of psychology, counselling and what it means to be here, as human-beings, in this universe. Soon after, Jon took his first yoga teacher training in Squamish, which was also rooted in shamanic healing arts. Here, old fears were examined and let go of, and he hasn’t looked back since. Jon has since completed his masters in clinical counselling psychology and is working in community growing an integrative practice.

To celebrate life, Jon bikes, boards, surfs, sings and plays guitar, goes to places like burning man and local community events, and is no longer watching people dance from the sidelines wishing he was. The artist in Jon sees life as art, as a dance, and risks getting a bit messy from time to time, trying new ways of being and creating with life and others
