Nicola Bennet

Dr. Nicola Bennett is a naturopathic doctor and an avid yoga practitioner and teacher. She was introduced to yoga by her gymnastics coach at age 16, where she instantly fell in love with the practice and knew that she would eventually become a teacher. Her keen interest in the human body and its movement brought her to UBC where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Health Science.

In 2011, Nicola completed her yoga teacher training and started teaching shortly after at Unity Yoga in Vancouver, where she taught regular classes for over a decade. Although Nicola had always wanted to be a doctor, she realized along the way that the conventional medical system was not for her. Yoga was the key that unlocked the door to a whole new world of Eastern philosophy and healing traditions, and she soon realized there were more paths to good health than those offered by western medicine.

Nicola decided to pursue another four years of school at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine where she completed her doctorate in natural medicine. Teaching yoga and maintaining a consistent yoga practice throughout her many years of education kept Nicola grounded and focused on her end goals. After graduating in 2017, she began practicing naturopathic medicine at the IV Health Centre, where she has been ever since.

In 2018, Nicola joined Susan Horning at Unity Retreats to teach and facilitate 8 local and international yoga retreats over a 3 year span. She has also been on the YTT faculty at Karma Yoga teachers, where she created and taught a course on ‘Anatomy for Yoga Teachers,’ as part of their 500h teacher training.

Nicola’s kinesiology and natural medicine background enrich her teachings; her classes focus heavily on anatomy and physiology, and using breath work and mindfulness to balance the nervous system. With a gentle supportive voice, Nicola creates a truly unique experience in her classes.
